La Alcazaba

Alcazaba, Malaga

A military fortress built by the Moors in the 11th century, it sits on a hilltop overlooking the town and the ocean. Originally it consisted of 3 protecting walls, over 100 towers and an upper residential area which included 3 palaces.

Gibralfaro Castle

Gibralfaro Castle, Malaga

Located next to La Alcazaba, the ground it sits upon originally hosted a lighthouse built by the Phoenicians. Later on a fortress was built by Adderramán III upon the lighthouse´s ruins. The fortress was reconstructed in the 14th century as a castle by Yasuf, which still sits there today boasting its illustrious and varied history.

The Roman Theater

It was discovered in 1951 and is located just below La Alcazaba. It boasts a massive size containing a radius of 31 meters and a hegight of 19 meters. It has not been used since the 3rd century however the Moors did take elements form it as inspiration for the construction of La Alcazaba.

How to Get There Take the E15 for a lovely drive along the coast until reaching San Pedro de Alcántara. Then take the A376 from San Pedro de Alcántara for 44 km until reaching the A369 which should take you to Ronda in about an hour and 45 minutes.

Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 9 pm. Sundays and holidays from 10 am to 8 pm. Closed Mondays, December 25th and Jan. 1st.
