Host City for 2012 Olympics: Newcastle upon Tyne

Sports fans travel from all over the world every four years to witness the greatest athletes of each country compete against one another in the Olympic Games.  The upcoming Olympic Games in 2012 are scheduled to be held in London, and you can begin making your plans to attend the games by booking a car hire from London Gatwick Airport for your stay.

Today I bring you a closer look at one of the smaller host cities for the 2012 Olympic Games, Newcastle upon Tyne.  Newcastle's lovely St. James Park will host part of the Olympic Football (soccer), and here in this short video you can take a look at the park and the town.

If you're thinking of attending some of the events, particularly football, consider the town of Newcastle as a destination for your visit.  With a car rental from Newcastle Airport you can easily drive to London, Manchester, and some of the other larger cities which are hosting events, but avoid some of the horrible congestion of flying into the larger airports.  You can see a complete list of cities hosting the 2012 Olympics on Wikitravel.

As you can see in the video, Newcastle upon Tyne has a lot to offer visitors.  Its streets are filled with a mix of the modern and the distant past.  Look one way and you can see new, innovative architecture, then turn your head the other and you face a site dating back 1000 years.  Besides touring the town to learn about its rich history, visitors for the Olympic Games who stay in Newcastle will also enjoy the many bars and pubs the city offers.
