Alicante - Torrevieja Car Hire

Delfina Viudes Nave 4, Torrevieja, Alicante, 03180

Torrevieja and its surrounding area, including Orihuela, has become famous over the years for their salt production.  Huge salt lakes surround the road from Alicante, and provide for some fascinating scenery.  From your Alicante car hire you can see huge salt mountains, these produce more than half a million tons of salt annually.

The name Torrevieja is a compound of two spanish words, vieja meaning old, and torre meaning tower.  The name comes from a popular old tower which once stood on the harbor, and it became a popular name for the destination around 1800 when it took over the salt administration from Orihuela.

Ride over to Torrevieja's historic harbor area in your car hire Alicante, Spain and start your sight seeing.  Visit the Museo del mar y sal (Museum of sea and salt) or catch the fishermen on the harbor auctioning fish.  Also near the harbor is the Iglesia Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción.  The church was originally erected in 1789 and the reconstructed in 1844, using the reclaimed stones from the original Torre Vieja, the old tower from which the city gets its name!

The city is full of pubs and restaurants, both Spanish and European style, to fill your evenings after a full day on the beach.
