The name Madrid probably comes from its ancient Arabic name Mayra (changing later to Mayrit), referring to the river Manzanares as a "giver of life". With Pablo Picasso's Guernica, having returned to Spain from New York after more than twenty years.

A city that knows the meaning of nightlife, Madrid is famous for having nights full of glamour and fun. Nightclubs, concerts, great food and beverages are ingredients that Madrid really knows how to assemble and transform into a wonderful experience. To mention some of the top night destinations we would include the neighbourhoods of: Bilbao, Tribunal, Alonso Martinez or Moncloa, along with the Puerta del Sol area (including Opera and Gran Via) and Huertas (barrio de Las Letras), locations that host tourists day and night. The district of Chueca has also become a hot spot in the city's night party scenes.

For children there are enough theme parks, zoos and excursions that could offer them an amazing adventure. Concerning classical music, the Auditorio Nacional de la Música is the best place to enjoy classical concerts. And let’s not forget the major opera house in Madrid, Teatro Real.

Madrid is also the new home of Flamenco, the city offers many top bars and clubs to get the romantic side of Madrid and enjoy its special gastronomy, including the well-known tapas bars.

We could not talk about Madrid without mentioning one of Spain’s greatest and worldwide known activities, which is bullfighting. Madrid has the largest Plaza de Toros (bullring) in Spain, Las Ventas, born in 1929; and considered the world’s centre of bullfighting. And, of course, Madrid can be the location to start an amazing trip all around the beautiful country of Spain.
